How the lawn mowing quote calculator works

This free estimate calculator is designed as a planning aid for small mowing companies. It does not look up competitor rates or claim to provide the going price in your city. You enter the assumptions that matter for your crew.

  1. Measure mowable lawn area. Exclude structures, beds, paths, and paved surfaces. If needed, start with our lawn size calculator.
  2. Estimate on-site crew hours. Area divided by your crew’s hourly mowing capacity yields expected on-site time. A 30-minute minimum is applied. Crew size multiplies the labor expense, not the mowing time again.
  3. Calculate direct cost. Worker-hours multiplied by wage and burden, plus round-trip driving cost and equipment/supply allowance.
  4. Set gross margin. Base price equals direct cost divided by (1 minus target margin). Optional frequency premiums are then applied to that price.
  5. Review the result. Check the actual implied margin, local sales tax, access conditions, and anything outside routine mowing.

Margin is not markup

A 30% gross margin on $70 in cost requires a $100 price ($70 ÷ 0.70). Adding 30% to $70 would yield only $91, which is a lower margin. See our profit margin calculator for more examples.

What should your lawn care estimate include?

For a client-facing quote, describe the mowing area, service frequency, expected scope, included trimming and cleanup, price per visit, and any assumptions. This calculator generates a one-page PDF as a starting document; review it before sending it to a customer. Local taxes, insurance, licenses, property hazards, and contract terms are your responsibility.

Frequently asked questions

Does the calculator store customer information?

Calculations and the PDF are produced in your browser. This version does not submit the form values to the SolvaTool server. Your browser, extensions, and downloaded files remain under your control.

Are the default mowing prices market averages?

No. Inputs are illustrative examples so you can see how the estimate works. Replace them with your actual costs and production times.

Can I use the PDF as a binding contract?

It is a non-binding example estimate. Add and verify your own terms, validity, scope, tax treatment, and local legal requirements before presenting it as a formal agreement.
